Results of research projects carried out for many years in the State Nature Reserve «Magadanskiy» were combined under one cover for the first time. The book includes studies on the landscapes and soils which were not published before. The botany section presents the results of the Siberian Spruce monitoring at the Yama valley refuge. The zoology section covers monitoring of the red voles (Clethrionomys spp. ), and the factors affecting their density; results of the Stel-ler's Sea Lion monitoring at the Yamsky Islands; as well as analysis of the numbers and distribution of the seabird colonies of the Yamsky Islands and the Koni Pennisula.
The publication is a valuable source for botanists, geographers, conversationalists, as well as all individuals interested in the natural history of the Magadan District.

The book is the summary of the long-term research of diatoms in the Kolyma river-basin. For the first time the whole complex of diatoms found in different water bodies of the region (creeks, rivers, lakes, swamps, ponds, and reservoirs) is presented. Currently 980 taxa belonging to species and subspecies ranks, represented by 839 species from 114 diatoms genera were found in water bodies of the river-basin. The top most diversified genera include: Eunotia9\ (97), Pinnularia 86 (104), Nitzschia 63 (67). Savicula 48 (55), Gomphonema 40 (46), Surirella 27 (37), Fragilaria 27 (29), Cymbella 23 (24), Stauroneis 21 (24), Cvmbopleura 18 (21). In aggregate they constitute more than 51% from the revealed complex of species. The majority of diatoms presented in the book are wide-spread in fresh waters of the Earth. 72% - all around the Earth, about 28% are characterized as arcto-boreal species and only separate representatives tend primarily to Arctic and Subarctic zones. Ecological and geographical characteristics as well as occurrence within the Beringia region are provided for every taxon.
The book is directed to researchers from different spheres: algologists, ecologists, water users of different types, and to scientific community interested in diatomology, hydrobiology and biogeography.

Since 1991 the author regularly conducted field research in the area of ornithological field base located in a typical lowland wood tundra at the right-bank tributary of the Kava River, about 50 km from the coast of the Sea of Okhotsk and 200 km to the west of Magadan. The main objective of this research was to study the long-term ecology and waterfowl populations, but along the way by collecting information on the biology of the other bird species. As a result, the materials were collected by terms of migration, breeding biology and ecology for many birds representing 12 orders, that live in the wood tundra, as well as been noted by a number of changes in the number of bird species in 15-20 years. Generalization in the same work of all the data collected by the author on the birds of this unique area for more than 20 years is the aim of this publication. The book may be interested for ornithologists and zoogeographers interested in distribution and ecology of northern birds and birdwatchers who regularly visiting the northern Okhotsk Sea coast within recent years.
