A new species of annulated boletus from the Magadan region is described

With the participation of specialists from the Laboratory of Botany, IBPN FEB RAS, a new type of annulated boletus from the Magadan Region with a secotioid (closed) fruit body, Suillus gastroflavus, was described. The article was published in one of the leading world magazines. The material of the article can be found here : https://doi.org/10.3767/persoonia.2019.42.11.

The species was found in the Srednekansky (surroundings of the settlement of Seimchan) and Tenkinsky (nearby the settlement of Orotuk) districts. It grows in moistened larch communities. By genetic characteristics, it is closely associated with a group of grey annulated boletus (closest to Suillus flavus).

This is the third world-known secotioid species of annulated boletus (2 species are known for North America) and the first taxon (from the Magadan region) for Eurasia.

The report “Expanding the network of specially protected natural territories of the Magadan Region as the basis for the development of ecotourism” formulated the position of IBPN FEB RAS on this issue, the general need and importance of expanding the network of specially protected natural territories (SPNT) for the region. The main part of the report is an initiative aimed at creating the Omulevsky National Park on the border between the northern part of the Susuman district of the Magadan region and the southern part of the Momsk region of Yakutia. Within the framework of the round table, options for organizing SPNT in this territory were considered, including taking into account the protected areas of the territories of Yakutia bordering the Magadan Region. Forum participants noted the great importance of this initiative and the prospects for its implementation.

On the results of a complex study of the Island of Zavyalov by the biologists from IBPN FEB RAS

The ecology of mammals was one of the research trends during the expedition to Zavyalov in 2019

The most numerous species on the island appeared to be the grey-sided vole – the only representative of mouse-like rodents.

The materials describing the features of its ecology and physiology on Zavyalov, can be found in our online-journal by the link.
