Berkutenko A.N. Atlas of plant seeds of the North Asia. - Magadan IBPNFEB RAS, 2016.-176 p., 43 col. fig. Bibliog.: 40 references.
The 800 color photographs of the seeds of the vascular plants of the North Asia, captured with a digital microscope, are published for the first time. The basis for the photographic tables were the seeds of 773 species that are stored in the collection of seeds and fruits of Botany Laboratory of the Institute of Biological Problems of the North FEB RAS. Megakarpii of 27 species of the family Apiaceae illustrated by two photographs for each species (top and bottom). The order of the seed meets the latin names of the species in the alphabetical order for ease. The characteristics of the distribution of the species in the North Asia. Information is also given about the distribution of the species outside of the North Asia. All photos were taken against the background of scale bar that allows you to get an idea of the average size of the seeds, and color reproduction of the photos helps evaluate the color of the seeds. Atlas showing the morphology of the seeds can be used for diagnostic purposes of species and genera of the seed. This publication is of interest to a wide range of professionals: botanists of different profiles - florists, taxonomists, staff of botanic gardens, landscapers, staff of environmental organizations, as well as zoologists, archaeologists, paleobotanists, ecologists and others.

The Decree of the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR of 1956 "On Measures of protection of animals in the Arctic» provided for a complete ban on the polar bear harvest in the Russian Federation since 1957. This Decree was applicable to the indigenous peoples of Chukotka and deprived them of the right to officially hunt polar bear for the traditional needs. This ban is in effect to date. The monograph first described the real attitude of the indigenous peoples to polar bear, the methods, techniques and scale of illegal harvest over the 60-year period of the ban. The degree of effectiveness of prohibiting the traditional hunting for the conservation of population, and mechanisms of the uncontrolled harvest management were considered. The sociological studies conducted by the authors in 1999-2012 in Chukotka were taken as a basis. The book is intended for biologists, sociologists, anthropologists, lawyers, officers of state environmental conservation and law enforcement entities, public organizations on conservation and protection of rights of indigenous peoples of the North.

The results of the forty-year study of the benthos fauna in water streams of the northern coast of the Sea of Okhotsk are summarized. Data on the benthos in 120 water streams are presented. The information on the bottom invertebrates diversity, on the taxonomic structure of mayflies, stoneflies, and caddisflies as well as on the density and the biomass of organisms and their communities is given. Peculiarities of the macrozoobenthos in eight length categories of water streams are considered. It is the first time for the area studied that the data on biotic indices for bottom communities in 69 water streams are published. Basins and dimensional classes of water streams most favorable for the fresh water biota development are distinguished for the area researched. One of the basic problems in hydrobiological research, censuring water organisms, is discussed basing on the example of bottom invertebrates, fish, and water plants.
The data presented can be used as background for region to the evaluation of the fish forage basis, the calculation of losses, and the assessment of the water biota state in the disturbed areas of the region.
